Melissa Selem, PhD
I am a Cuban-American, better said, Miami-American, mother of two and proud Ruckusmaker!
I am Executive Director of Fertile Earth Foundation a Miami based nonprofit organization dedicated to building community and healthy soil through compost. Highlights from past work include executive program administrator for Elemental Impact, a national nonprofit dedicated to bringing sustainable best practices to the corporate community, contributing to two psychology handbooks, providing youth and adult counseling, and teaching college courses in the community health field. In this game of life, I collected a PhD in Community Health from the University of Illinois, a MSEd in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami, and a BA in Psychology from Emory University.
My vision of local and individual self-reliance draws on urban making, sustainability principles and alternative education. Through my work I hope to inspire creativity, curiosity, and conscious consumption. All for the goal of a happier, healthier, sustainable society, one community at a time. Now for the challenging work of creating something!
